Route an inbound number

Send a number to an extension, a ring group, an IVR or your mobile.

A number you buy starts unrouted. Nothing is lost while it is unrouted — callers hear a network message — but it will not ring anywhere until you point it somewhere.

Destinations

  • Extension — rings one device or softphone.
  • Ring group — rings several extensions at once, in sequence, or round-robin.
  • IVR menu — answers with a greeting and routes on the caller's keypress.
  • Time condition — routes differently inside and outside your business hours.
  • External number — forwards to a mobile or landline. Outbound rates apply to the forwarded leg.

Changing a route

Open Portal → Numbers, choose the number and pick a new destination. The change is written to the switch within a few seconds. If the switch is briefly out of contact, the change is queued and the portal tells you so rather than reporting success it cannot confirm.
